POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD) is
a severe anxiety disorder resulting from a psychological trauma that overwhelms
one’s ability to cope. Symptoms include
nightmares and flashbacks, insomnia, anger management problems,
hypersensitivity to normal life experiences and avoiding anything that could be
associated with the trauma. Many members of the military who return from combat
zones experience PTSD.
PTSD may be effectively managed through
therapy. However, those with PTSD often go
untreated and instead turn to alcohol or drugs.
Substance abuse aggravates the symptoms of PTSD and results in a
downward mental health spiral.
ATTN therapists are trained and
experienced in several psychotherapeutic approaches to treating people with
PTSD, including cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal therapy. Clients can select an ATTN therapist of his
or her choice, and schedule sessions for any time of day or night, and as frequently as
needed.
